The HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™ is an important place for thought leaders and people with questions to gather and connect during the HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition. But it’s not just the connections made during the week that are important.
The Showcase planning process begins in April, when we open our call for use case suggestions for the following year. This is an opportunity for the industry to let us know what they are working on and what interoperability challenges they are facing. From this list of suggestions we provide our participants a rough outline of the most submitted options, and from there our participants sign up to tackle these topics. The list of options is broad, from cancer research, to opioid addiction – anywhere interoperability will make a significant difference to how healthcare is delivered or received.
From there, our participating organizations meet weekly to discuss their system capabilities, what they are working on and what they would like to share with attendees at HIMSS19. These groups represent an ecosystem of individuals trying to tackle similar issues while meeting together as peers. Large organizations collaborate with small startups to learn from each other how they can facilitate interoperability to improve health outcomes. These discussions cover what technically needs to be done, what standards they support and how to tell their stories in the most impactful way.
The next couple of weeks are a whirlwind of activity as we settle on the final educational sessions and use case descriptions. The excitement grows as it becomes clearer as to what the Showcase will have to present to thousands of attendees on the exhibit floor.
At HIMSS19, demonstrations run every hour. After each session, you are invited to connect with our participants and learn more about interoperability and their capabilities in this market. Afterwards, you can join one our education sessions that start 30 minutes past the hour, to gain insights and learn from a variety of stakeholders about where interoperability is going and ask questions.
Especially exciting this year will be our new satellite location. Demonstrations covering the important topics of interoperability and connected health will be located in the Personalized Health Experience.
Making meaningful connections is what interoperability is all about. It’s when everyone is working together that we will see meaningful change to how healthcare is practiced. We need everyone to join us at HIMSS19 and make connections of their own.
