  • The city of Las Vegas was incorporated in 1911; gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931.
  • The Sands Expo Center – where HIMSS18 will take place – has more than 2.25 million square feet of exhibit and meeting space.
  • There are nearly 150,000 hotel and motel rooms in Las Vegas. The MGM Grand Hotel and Theme Park is the largest resort hotel-casino in the world, with a whopping 5,005 rooms and a 171,500-square-foot casino.
  • At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower is the tallest free-standing observation tower in the U.S. – and the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River.
  • The bright lights of The Strip were temporarily dimmed in memory of several dignitaries, including President Ronald Reagan; President John F. Kennedy; Rat Pack members Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin; and George Burns.
  • Downtown Vegas’s Fremont Street Experience features the world’s largest video screen at 1,500 feet x 90 feet, suspended 90 feet above a pedestrian mall that includes some of the city’s most iconic casinos.
  • The nearby Hoover Dam is 726.4 feet high at its crest, is made from 3.25 million tons of concrete, and weighs more than 6.5 million tons.
