HIMSS19 will once again break records for caffeine consumed, deals brokered, products launched, case studies published and data presented. HIMSS19 will also set another milestone – being the first to debut the American Nurse Association Nurse NursePitch™, a Pre-Seed and Series A competition.
So why are we doing this? We have long history of supporting nurses as innovators, through our collaboration with the Alliance for Nursing Informatics, our support of the ANA’s Nursing Informatics Scope & Standards of Practice and through our thought leadership contributions to the discipline. In a recent TEDxBeaconStreetTalk, Rebecca Love, RN, MSN, ANP shares research findings that suggest nurses execute 27 workarounds in 36 places in 1 hour. Nurses are natural innovators! And are end users of nearly every product on the market; shouldn’t they be involved in the beginning of the process? NursePitch™ is one of many activities that are contributing to the culture of nursing innovation. We will be developing out multi year programming that is designed to increase the voice, opportunity and visibility of the nursing audience in the digital health ecosystem by holding ‘nurse led’ & ‘nurse developed’ innovation.
I will have the pleasure of MCing NursePitch™ Wednesday, February 13, 2019 1:30 – 4:00pm | HIMSS19 Lobby E/F Debut Square and introducing our judges in a roundtable format where each judge will explore provide their insights on the innovation ecosystem and nursing’s role. They will discuss why nurse led’ innovation is important and provide practical recommendations for eliminating barriers and addressing nurses’ role in transforming healthcare through the use of digital health tech.
We have a ‘who’s who’ of venture, entrepreneur, innovation and nursing leadership serving as judges including: Bonnie Clipper, DNP, RN, MA, MBA, CENP, FACHE, vice president, Innovation, American Nurses Association; Jeff Ries, vice president, Fund Management, Healthbox; Matthew Hermann, senior managing director, Ascension Ventures; Molly McCarthy, RN, MBA, national director, US Provider Industry and chief nursing officer, Microsoft; Betty Jo Rocchio, MS, BSN, CRNA, CNO, chief nursing optimization officer, Mercy; Karen Tilstra, PhD, co-founder, Florida Hospital Innovation Lab.
I will also be the first to welcome our five nurse pitch finalists live:
Helpsy: Undergoing cancer treatment is financially challenging, physiologically and psychologically stressful, and has a profound impact on all dimensions of life. Helpsy provides a symptom management and navigation platform to support cancer patients throughout their treatment journey.
MyRA: My Resource Assistant provides a more efficient means of addressing the staffing shortage issues of our healthcare system. MyRA helps alleviate the negative impact that staffing issues have on patient safety and care, which result from understaffed and overworked employees.
New Trails Navigators: Healthcare systems are designed to help patients get well, but success is difficult to maintain when a patient's whole picture includes unmet social and behavioral needs. New Trails Navigators improves the health of communities with Peer Patient Navigators.
TechNHOlytics: Currently, we know there are over 15,000 nursing homes in the U.S. providing services to over 1.7 million Americans. TechNHOlytics, LLC. provides nursing home IT analytics about IT maturity nationally.
TIIKO: Unstructured nursing data lie hidden in the EMR/EHR. TIIKO’s multidimensional, unstructured data search (patent pending) disrupts the keyword search that remains the backbone of big data queries/searches.
Look forward to seeing you live at NursePitch™ and exploring together how we can advance nursing innovation together.
A huge thank you to all the members of the ANA, HIMSS staff, the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community, Healthbox, MASS Challenge, Plug and Play, our finalists and our judges for making this a reality!
