Safe Information & Technology Practices for Patient Care

Education
The speaker will introduce the challenges of collecting HIT events and opportunities of informatics approaches in analyzing the events toward shared learning in the community.
This technology combined with the HRO practice of conducting daily safety huddles and rounding, has led to Memorial Hermann achieving one of the lowest fall injury rates in the nation.
Case studies will be presented to exemplify existing gaps in real-time reporting of intra-operative consultations, accurate pathology data integration in clinical notes, exploiting pathology diagnostics in organizational programs accreditation and patients' enrollment in clinical trials, creating system-wide tumor registries, integrating tumor boards discussions in patients charts, and ensuring providers follow up on critical values.
