Sue Daugherty leads MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance) as its Chief Executive Officer, having originally joined the organization in December 1999 as a registered dietitian nutritionist. Sue was instrumental in MANNA’s shift from providing comfort and care to those dying from AIDS into an organization helping people with over 70 different illnesses win the fight of their life through nutrition counseling and home-delivered medically appropriate meals.
At MANNA, Sue has held several positions, including Director of Nutrition and Client Services, Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director, and in 2014, Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, Sue has appeared on television and been quoted extensively in the press, always promoting her belief that food is medicine.
Sue also garnered national recognition in June 2013 when she co-authored a key study, “Examining Health Care Costs Among MANNA Clients and a Comparison Group,” which was published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Primary Care & Community Health. This research study examined the healthcare cost savings associated with MANNA’s model. Sue has presented MANNA’s work at conferences and meetings across the United States.
Beyond her commitment to the local Philadelphia community, Sue’s work also has a global investment and reach. In 2007, Sue represented the Association of Nutrition Service Agencies (ANSA) in Namibia, where she developed nutrition programs for Hope Initiatives, an organization that provides care for orphans and vulnerable children impacted by HIV/AIDs. Sue served as a board member of ANSA from 2010-2012.
