Pua Cooper MSN, RN, FHIMSS, CHCIO is a highly experienced Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) with 30 years of leadership and clinical experience. She is responsible for the operation of the Nursing/Clinical Informatics department for a 400-bed acute care academic hospital in South Florida. She uses her strong understanding of clinical practice to leverage technology to improve patient outcomes. She is responsible for the strategic direction clinical technology has operational oversight for all clinical application implementations for Boca Raton Regional Hospital where she has been with the organization since 2008. She is a graduate of Walden University where she obtained a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialty in Nursing Informatics in 2012. In April 2019, she recognized by CHIME as a Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO).
In 2017, she was recognized as a Fellow for her contributions to the HIMSS organization. She currently sits on the South Florida HIMSS Chapter Board of Directors as the Past President after a two year term as President. At the national level, she participates in the Nursing Informatics Task Force as well as the HIMSS Chapters Task Force for FY20. She has been a speaker at various local and national conferences including: HIMSS 2014, HIMSS 2016, HIMSS 2017, South Florida Organization of Nursing Executives (SFONE), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HMFA), and the Nursing Consortium of South Florida. In addition to her work with HIMSS, she is member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) since 2016.
She and her Informatics team was recognized as a McKesson’s Distinguished Achievement Award National Finalist for Innovative Use of Technology to Advance Care in in 2014 for their work on the inappropriate use of CPOE free-text orderables. She and her team have been invited to sit of several of Cerner’s national user groups to drive the future design of the Cerner Millennium EHR.
