Michel Décary is an expert computational linguist with over 30 years of experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Software Engineering. He is the chief software architect and engineer responsible for developing the core technologies at Cogilex.
Michel Décary has created a variety of NLP software methods and tools for analyzing unstructured text and generating knowledge representations, resulting in a scientific publication (M. Décary, G. Lapalme, Computational Linguistics, Sept. 1990) and several patents. One of his innovative methods is for syntactical parsing based on the dependency syntax theory. This method uses rule-driven semantic extraction to improve accuracy and robustness in machine text understanding. The NLP software tools that Décary created have been used by our industrial partners worldwide. As a software entrepreneur, Mr. Décary co-founded the successful vertical search engine Zoom Information Inc. and served as its Chief Scientist responsible for developing the company's core technology from 2000 to 2007. He was also the CEO of Neurox Research Inc., a Montreal-based company involved in NLP research for the Canadian Armed Forces. He also co-founded Logiciels Machina Sapiens Inc. in 1985 where he designed the first version of its award-winning grammatical checker for French.
Mr. Décary is an expert problem solver who performed all core software design and development work at Cogilex. He invented numerous computational methods and tools to handle the many great challenges that Cogilex faced in developing its cognitive-based semantic search engine technology.
Mr. Décary holds a B.A. in linguistics and a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Université de Montréal (1986).
