Senior Clinical Informatics Specialist, Outcomes and Reporting
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center
Dr. Melissa L. Wilbert, PhD leads clinical data reporting at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in her role as Senior Clinical Informatics Specialist, Outcomes and Reporting. She is responsible for effective dissemination of data within interdisciplinary groups, and generation of actionable inferences from it. By combining information captured in EHR and scheduling systems with subjective input from staff and patients, her work helps to separate perception from reality and drive impactful initiatives. Melissa brings over ten years’ experience in biomedical informatics. Previously, she worked in pharmaceutical and gene therapy development as a bioinformatics scientist in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research and Bluebird Bio, respectively. In these roles she developed automated pipelines for multidimensional data analysis and web-based platforms for consumption of this data. One of her initiatives reduced the workload of pathology specialists by hundreds of hours. For her doctoral training in Biomedical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego, Melissa specialized in big data analysis in the study of stem cell function and oncofetal properties. Her research has contributed to foundational understanding of genomic instabilities in reprogrammed stem cells and peer reviewed publications cited more than 1,000 times. She has a proven ability to effectively communicate her work to diverse audiences through successful manuscript preparation, funding applications and oral presentations and trainings to international experts and community members alike.
