Martin (Marty) Rice, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, began his nursing career working in geriatric psychiatry and chronic and post-acute care. His health informatics career includes work as Director of Information Technology for Hospital Home Health Care and several federal roles. He’s managed clinical information systems and facilitated system upgrades in CMS’ Office of Clinical Systems and Quality including several aspects of Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) implementation. Marty has also served as Deputy Director of the Office of Health IT and Quality at Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and as a senior advisor in the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. He is currently the Director of State Systems at CMS’ Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services. Marty teaches at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Marty earned his BSN from Coppin State University and his Masters of Science from the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
