Lauren Thompson

Dr. Lauren Thompson, Ph.D. serves as Director of the DoD/VA IPO. In this position, Dr. Thompson leads and oversees the collaborative efforts of the Departments’ adoption of and contribution to national health data standards to ensure secure and seamless integration of health data between DoD, VA and private health care providers. Previously, Dr. Thompson served as the Director of the Standards and Interoperability (S&I) Division of the Office of Science and Technology (OST) and Program Director for the Federal Health Architecture (FHA) program, within the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). Dr. Thompson is a recognized health industry leader with over 30 years of experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Dr. Thompson holds a Doctorate in Health Policy and Strategic Management and a Master’s degree in Health Services Management and Policy and Information Management from George Washington University as well as a baccalaureate degree in Biology from Colgate University. She is a Certified Leadership Coach, a member of the International Coach Federation, a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), and a Fellow in the Health Information and Management Systems Society (FHIMSS). Dr. Thompson has served as an adjunct professor and preceptor at Georgetown University, George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University.
