Dr Boyle is a research scientist at Australia’s national science agency – the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). At CSIRO he plays a key role in attracting funding for ongoing support of the research and performs data modelling and analysis to improve the evidence base for decision making around the flow of patients through hospitals. Dr Boyle has led projects such as forecasting patient admissions to emergency departments and inpatient admissions in hospitals; evaluating the impact of capacity alerts and adverse event analysis; optimising the configuration of inpatient beds to meet flow targets; and establishing new remote telehealth services in remote Australia via broadband satellite. He is a reviewer for IEEE- Journal of Biomedical Health Informatics, IEEE EMBC, Emergency Medicine Australasia journal, and his research outputs have been incorporated into government planning policy and commercialised.
