Clinical Psychologist, Director, Design and Best Practice, Office of Patient Experience
Julie Rish, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Director of Design and Best Practice in the Office of Patient Experience at the Cleveland Clinic. She is also the Director of Communication Skills Training and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Rish earned her doctorate degree from Loma Linda University and completed her pre- and post-doctoral training at Henry Ford Health Sciences Center and the Cleveland Clinic. Her clinical and research interests include healthcare communication, patient experience, behavior change, and human centered design. She is a published author and manuscript reviewer for leading journals in obesity.
Dr. Rish’s focus has been on applying human centered design to improve patient experience, and partnering with patients to transform healthcare. She is the Director of the Insights Studio, Cleveland Clinic’s integrated human-centered design capabilities. She is actively engaged in identifying best practices for patient experience, the evaluation of this work and development of innovative strategies to improve healthcare. Dr. Rish is passionate about improving experience for patients and caregivers, speaks nationally on this topic and was the recipient of the 2016 Press Ganey Success Story ® award, finalist for the 2018 Sherman Award, and serves on the EngageingPatients.org Advisory Board.
