Joyce Lee, MD, MPH, is an Endocrinologist and Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School and School of Public Health. She is a researcher and designer who is passionate about the notion that human centered design thinking can and will transform the delivery of clinical care and the biomedical research enterprise. Her research focuses on the use of emerging technologies (mobile technology, data visualization, participatory game design, social media) and the creation of learning health systems (incorporating health systems design and design/ethnography) for improving outcomes in type 1 diabetes. She co-leads an interdisciplinary collaborative called HealthDesignBy.Us, which supports patients as experts and "makers" in the creation of tools, technologies, and systems for their own health.
