Jim Panella is Director of Clinical Engineering at University of Illinois Hospital and Health Science System in Chicago Illinois where he is Chair of the Medical Equipment Sub-Committee and the Clinical Alarms Improvement Committee. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Technical Management from DeVRY Institute of Technology as well as an Electronics degree. He started his career in Clinical Engineering 34 years ago at University of Chicago Medical Center and has been a Director of Clinical Engineering for the past 27 years. For the past 6 years he has been the Secretary and Treasurer for ACCE (American College of Clinical Engineering). During his career, he also has had responsibility for many Support Service departments; Equipment Distribution, Patient Transportation, Mail Center Services, and Medical Center Parking where he initiated many process improvement programs.
