Mr. Lenel James has over thirty five years of experience in the field of management, systems consulting, and standards development – and over 20 years of focused experience in the healthcare industry. He has participated in and conducted/led local and national seminars & forums on health information exchange, HIPAA and clinical information systems. Lenel James is the Business Lead, Health Information Exchange & Innovation for the Industry Standards and eHealth team of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. His responsibilities include working externally (at standards setting organizations) and internally (within National Programs) on many of the key Health IT, eHealth and electronic standards issues. He has participated with a variety of organizations, including HL7 (EHR, FHIR & Attachments), ASC X12N (EDI transactions) and HIMSS. As an active leadership and authoring member of HL7, he participates on the HL7 Payer User Group, the Patient Care Work Group, the Electronic Health Record Work Group (EHR WG). Lenel also participates in the work activities of the Attachments Work Group (AWG), on the healthcare claims attachment standard. As part of his extensive experience in clinical information systems, and information technology strategic planning, Mr. James has worked with health care, state and federal clients on a broad array of projects for a leading international consulting firm. He also spent five years as the Director of Clinical Systems for the Hospital Information Systems Department of the third largest public hospital in the USA.
