James L. Madara, MD, is CEO and executive vice president of the American Medical Association, an adjunct professor of pathology at Northwestern University and chairman of the innovation firm Health2047 Inc.  Since taking the reins of the AMA in 2011, Madara has helped sculpt the organization’s visionary long-term strategic plan.
He previously has held positions at Harvard Medical School, Emory University and the University of Chicago as well as serving as senior adviser with Leavitt Partners. His honors and awards include receiving the MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health, being named one of the nation’s 50 most influential physician executives and one of the nation’s 100 most influential people in healthcare by Modern Healthcare, and two lifetime achievement awards from medical societies.
