Mr. James D. Buntrock is Vice Chair of Information Technology at Mayo Clinic supporting Enterprise Platforms for Data, APIs, Identity, and Knowledge Delivery. He is the Mayo IT executive co-sponsor for the Mayo technology platform working with Google Cloud Platform and the Mayo/Google strategic partnership. He is also serving as the senior IT administrator for Mayo Clinic's three collaborative centers — the Center for Individualized Medicine, the Center for Regenerative Medicine and the Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery — supporting discovery, translation and application of new models of care along with new diagnostics and therapies. With his interest in informatics and application of analytics his roles have been shaping science and discovery. He has lead and created IT teams for software development, enterprise data warehousing/big data, genomics processing, analytic services, and HPC /storage infrastructure. Mr. Buntrock was instrumental in establishing Mayo Clinic’s Natural Language Processing Core and Bioinformatics IT service with numerous applications applied in research and clinical practice. He currently manages Mayo’s Software Development Shared Services providing in-house software development for many Mayo clinical and business areas including the creation of the Mayo Innovation Sandbox and internal innovation ecosystem. Mr. Buntrock is a regular IT advisor with Mayo Department of Business Development and Medical Ventures for new software and technology opportunities. He serves the IT Executive sponsor for Mayo Clinic IT Fellowship Program and is currently an Instructor in Medical Informatics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
