Douglas Thompson is a leading international expert in defining and measuring the value of healthcare information technologies and translating these technologies into operations improvements and strategic advantage for their buyers. His research and consulting topics include information technology (IT) benefits realization and measurement, IT systems implementation and optimization, the use of modern process improvement methods in hospital IT departments, health IT and consumerism, Product Value Analysis for health IT vendors, and IT’s role in reducing unwarranted care variation.
Doug has had a 30-year career in hospital consulting, serving hundreds of leading hospitals, including several Davies Award winners, and health IT vendors including Microsoft, GE Healthcare, Cardinal Health, McKesson, and many others. He also started up consulting businesses for several health IT vendors. He is a HIMSS Fellow, and served as the Chair of the HIMSS Clinical Systems Benefits Task Force.
