Derek Novak, is the Division VP and COO at Mercy ACO, Iowa a subsidiary of Mercy Health Network having 190+ participant organizations & 3,500+ providers across Iowa, NE-Nebraska and, SW-Wisconsin. Derek has been with Mercy ACO since its inception in 2012 where he initially joined as a Business Operations Manager and later served as the Division Director of Operations for over 4 years. As the Div. Director of Operations, he was the chair of the Mercy ACO Data Committee and a contributing team member to a $10.1 million CMS Innovation Grant awarded to Mercy Health Network to expand Mercy ACO to rural Iowa and rural Nebraska. Currently, his area of operation includes managing data analytics and reporting, data systems implementation, process improvement facilitation, policy and procedure development, ACO Strategic Plan Deployment and general ACO business oversight.
Derek was also associated with Mercy Medical Center for over 4 years, first as the six sigma black belt (2007-10) and then as the master black belt (2010-2012). As the master black belt, he initiated and co-facilitated the performance excellence department level deployment of Hoshin Kanri (Strategy Deployment), Co-Administered Mercy’s PowerSteering Project Management Software and Co-facilitated the redesign of Performance Excellence Education Curriculum to foster organizational capacity for change.
Prior to joining the Mercy Health Network, he worked with Textron Fastening Systems for 5 years.
With over 19 years of experience in the field, Derek has expertise in Value Based Contracting, Accountable Care Organization development and, Healthcare Reform. He is also a public speaker in the areas of Healthcare Analytics and Accountable Care and possess excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills. Derek completed his B.S Management and MBA from the Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa.
