Darinda Sutton is the Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Premier Focus and joined Cerner in March 2005. In the role of Regional CNO, she leads of team of 4 nursing executives who have the responsibility for developing and maintaining nurse and clinical executive relationships with complex and strategic clients in the U.S. She and her team work closely with the Chief Nursing Executives and clinical leaders to develop strategic plans for clinical automation and provide clinical executive oversight to any ongoing projects. Prior to coming to Cerner, Darinda worked at UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) in Pittsburgh, PA and had direct patient care experience in Critical Care; Post Open Heart ICU, Emergency Medicine and Hemodialysis. Her Nursing Management experience was acquired while serving as an Assistant Unit Director and Unit Director of an 18 bed Cardiothoracic Open Heart ICU. During her 15 years at UPMC she served in various roles within the clinical and IT departments. She held the position of Corporate Director of Nursing Informatics for the 19 hospital health system upon her departure from UPMC.
Darinda is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, has a Masters in Nursing Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh and is Board Certified in Nursing Informatics by the ANCC. She received her BSN from Carlow College and her Diploma Degree in Nursing from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She previously held adjunct faculty positions at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, in the Nursing Informatics program, and Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA from 1999 through 2005 where she has taught a course entitled Data Driven Decision Making. In 2002, she was awarded the Leadership Award for Tri-State Healthcare Informatics Professions, and in 1998 she was named Carlisle Hospital Staff Nurse of the Year.
