Christina Galanis was an early Health Information Exchange (HIE) pioneer who now serves as President and CEO of one of the largest and most innovative HIEs in New York State. HealthlinkNY is a not-for-profit, Qualified Entity (QE) contracted by New York State to operate the HIE for a 13-county area with a population of 3.5 million people.
In addition to her management and technical expertise, Ms. Galanis is fully versed in the policy considerations that support adoption and utilization of an HIE. She is experienced in managing the dynamics of stakeholder and vendor participation in an exchange, and uses her strong communication skills to clearly articulate the benefits of data exchange to lay and professional audiences alike.
Ms. Galanis has leveraged HealthlinkNY’s relationships with hospitals, physician practices, health departments, and behavioral health organizations to address population health issues. Ms. Galanis launched the HealthlinkNY Community Network to engage all of these to prioritize and address population health needs such as mental and behavioral health, diabetes, Lyme disease, and social determinants of health.
HealthlinkNY also is supporting New York State’s effort to redesign Medicaid delivery and payment, known as the DSRIP (Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment) program, to reduce avoidable hospitalizations by 25% over four years.
Ms. Galanis is actively involved in the Business and Operations Council (BOC) of the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC), which operates the Statewide Health Information Network of New York (SHIN-NY). Her voice is frequently heard on issues relating to health information technology and transformation, ultimately being an advocate for a better experience for both patients and providers. She has written multiple health IT articles and been interviewed many times by national publications such as Health Leaders, EHR Intelligence, Healthcare Informatics, Healthcare IT News, and local media.
