Dr. Whitaker is the Senior Director of the Department of Research for AABB. She is also the Senior Director of the AABB Center for Patient Safety, an AHRQ designated patient safety organization, and is responsible for AABB’s hemovigilance activities in coordination with hospitals, blood centers and the federal government.
Dr. Whitaker served as the coordinator of the AABB Interorganizational Task Force on Biovigilance, where the public and private sectors developed the blueprint for US Hemovigilance.
She chairs the Clinical Complications Editorial Group of the World Health Organization’s Notify Library, a searchable compendium of adverse events associated with Medical Products of Human Origin.
Prior to joining AABB in 2005, she directed standards and certification activities at the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association and was the National Officer of Quality Assessment at the national headquarters of the American Red Cross Blood Services. She graduated from Princeton University with a degree in biology and from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, with a doctorate in behavioral and neural science.
