Dr. Andrew Deutsch founded and continues to serve as Chairman and CEO of Renaissance Imaging Medical Associates (RIMA), one of the ten largest private radiology groups in the United States. A graduate of Columbia College in his native New York City, he attended medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, followed by doing his radiology training at the University of California, San Diego.
Involved in the early application of MRI to the musculoskeletal system, he is the author of over fifty original scientific papers and has authored four textbooks related to the musculoskeletal applications of MRI. He has lectured extensively at scientific and continuing medical educational meetings throughout the United States on clinical MRI. In addition to his expertise in diagnostic radiology, Dr. Deutsch became interested in the changing business model of delivering radiology services resulting from the digitalization of diagnostic imaging and development of PACS. This led to him to return to school and obtain an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA after which he founded RIMA with the idea of taking the academic model of subspecialty radiology and delivering it to community hospitals. This necessitated a major investment in the IT infrastructure and novel focus on the efficiency of radiologist workflow in order to deliver a high quality product in a cost effective manner that did not require subsidization. From a single hospital origin, RIMA has now grown entirely organically to provide services to over seventy locations including hospitals, imaging centers, urgent care centers and clinics over a wide area network with a current examination volume approaching two million studies annually.
