OCIO Healthcare Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (HCCIC)
Al was selected as the Acting Director of the Healthcare Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (HCCIC) in September 2017. His role is leading the HCCIC in its efforts to enhance health sector awareness and protections against cyber threats, through strengthened coordination and sharing of actionable cybersecurity information across the entire sector, working closely with groups such as the office of the HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Al also fills the full time role as manager of the HHS HCCIC Research and Forensics (R&F) team, which performs multiple services such as malware research and forensics reviews for HHS. Al started working with the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) in 2011 as a contractor for the HHS Computer Security Incident Response Center (CSIRC), and became a Federal employee with the CSIRC in 2013. Before joining HHS, Al worked in the cybersecurity field as an information technology security manager in higher education and served as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Security Officer for a private company in the banking sector. Al holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN) certifications.
