Virtual Care and Clinical Decision Support Improves Sepsis Alert

11:15am - 11:45am Friday, February 15
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W304E

Description

Banner Health provides remote surveillance to >700 patients/day via their TeleICU. They provide the surveillance in the traditional model within the ICU and also push the boundary into the ED and acute care spaces. The technology supports the monitoring of important plans of care such as sepsis. Banner added lactic acid to the sepsis alert - now branded as the "SaFE Alert" (Sepsis And perFusion Evaluation) to improve the real-time notification of Sepsis or organ failure. The SaFE Alert is monitored on a Cerner MPage as a by-product of documentation. The MPage is accessible from any location for staff to assist in monitoring, and the alerts can be pushed to other devices. The telecare teams play a key role by monitoring the MPage for the SaFE Alert, even for patients outside of the ICU. Real-time automated continuous sampling of electronic health record data is key to identify patients at risk for death and enable prompt life-saving interventions.
