Veterans Health Information Exchange (VHIE) – Past, Present and Future

11:30am - 8:00pm Tuesday, March 6
Las Vegas - Sands Convention Center
Interoperability Showcase|11955| VA Area

Description

This presentation will review the past, present, and path forward for VHIE, a key program that allows the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to be interoperable nation-wide. VHIE is building a national network of exchange with federal partners, health care organizations, electronic health record vendors, and Health Information Exchange networks. The presentation demonstrates the signs of VHIE’s (therefore VA’s) steady growth in interoperability with community partners. Presenters will focus on the clinical use cases VA has implemented, their impact to the Veteran, and the quantitative measures VHIE has put in place to track VA’s performance and progress in interoperability. The presenters will review VA’s goal to expand the network, where this growth is expected and how the program may be impacted by legislative changes to Veteran access policies. The presenters will cover VA’s strategy to transition to Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) products that will modernize its interoperability platform.
