The Use of Blockchain to Improve Quality Outcomes

3:00pm - 4:00pm Wednesday, March 7
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Delfino 4004

Description

The emphasis on defining, measuring and analyzing clinical outcomes of care has never been greater with the emphasis on value-based care and alternative payment models as defined in the Medicaid and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). Collecting information on outcomes usually represents a moment in time during a patient encounter in which an action(s) is taken by a provider that will lead to a prescribed outcome due to a strong supporting foundation of evidence. However, the use of blockchain technology opens up the data collection around outcomes as it provides access to collecting and exchanging digital health assets that can be stored and analyzed but remain private. This has the potential to transform quality measurement from an episodic capturing and reporting data into a more dynamic enterprise.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the use and functionality of blockchain in quality reporting
  • Apply the blockchain ledger to collect digital health assets for quality outcome reporting
  • Formulate dynamic quality measures using blockchain and digital health assets
  • Integrate blockchain into the quality measurement enterprise for dynamic reporting
  • Explain how to use the information available on the blockchain as a basis for quality reporting
