Smartphones for Caregivers = Better Patient Experiences

12:00pm - 1:00pm Thursday, March 8
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Palazzo E

Description

UW Medicine’s Valley Medical Center dramatically improved patient outcomes after moving to a smartphone-based platform for clinical communication and alarm and alert notification. Before-and-after analysis shows a reduction in hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and skin integrity events, fall and slip events, and medication errors. By limiting overhead, the medical center also created a calmer, quieter environment, and improved engagement among nursing and hospitals. This session will describe the experiences and vision for the future in addressing quality, cost and the patient-caregiver experience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe how a smartphone-based communication platform can help healthcare organizations meet quality-of-care initiatives
  • Evaluate the impact of a new communication platform on quality of care, cost reduction, patient safety, care coordination and the overall patient-caregiver experience
  • Explain how to achieve impressive results with more efficient clinical workflows that rely on secure text messaging and alarm and alert notifications, all on one mobile device
  • Apply Valley Medical Center’s vision for the future and next steps for its clinical communication platform to their own organization
