Securing Medication Use Analytics and Surveillance in the Cloud

4:30pm - 5:30pm Wednesday, March 7
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Marcello 4401

Description

The Kansas City Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is implementing elements of the analytic and surveillance system in the cloud using an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) model. This system will address the needs of standardization of care in the VHA’s Ambulatory Care system, improving clinic workflow, efficiency and access to care, as well as improving Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) performance metrics. Deploying in the cloud will allow the VHA to benefit from state-of-the-art cybersecurity measures implemented by the cloud provider, enhancing patient data security while complying with industry standards in data protection. It will also reduce implementation time, and the needs of technical support and enterprise technologies needed to support 150+ host systems if we followed an On Premise approach. With an IaaS model, one core managed set of VM’s will support our current and future analytic and surveillance needs, significantly containing our cost.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the characteristics of all the Cloud Computing modalities available
  • Describe the Cybersecurity measures put in place to keep patient data secured in the cloud
  • Compare the benefits of cloud computing for enterprise clinical practice governance and standardization versus standard site implementation (On Premise)
