Using Data for Evidence Based Decision-Making: A Davies Story

10:30am - 11:30am Thursday, March 8
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Murano 3301

Description

Access to vast amounts of clean interoperable data enables fast and reliable data-driven decision-making for clinicians and drives quality improvement. This framework allows data interoperability across multiple systems throughout the enterprise. In this presentation, HIMSS Davies Award recipient UT Southwestern Medical Center will demonstrate how data is digested through dashboards and other analytic tools. Through conformed dimensions and multiple fact tables, users can easily analyze data for immediate answers. This framework will allow UTSW to save approximately $2 million dollars annually. HIMSS Davies Award recipient Cleveland Clinic will share how they developed an automated real-time Early Warning System (EWS) that drives timely intervention for early signs of clinical deterioration. The system uses color-coded alerts surfaced inside/outside of the EMR that are visible to all care providers and drives an intuitive integrated workflow. As result of this optimization, Cleveland Clinic significantly reduced patient time spent at

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain why conforming a relatively small set of master dimensions (date, patient, provider, location, organization, diagnosis, treatment, etc.) enables analytic interoperability across a wide variety of data sources
  • Justify providing data visualizations to front-line clinicians as well as managers in support of an enterprise initiative
  • Describe how dynamic visualization can drive adaptive care and measurable, tangible outcomes
