Recognition Testing Improves Immunization Workflow and Data

3:00pm - 4:00pm Tuesday, March 6
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Delfino 4004

Description

Healthcare providers and public health stakeholders share in the objective of reducing the incidence of vaccine preventable disease. Much attention is focused on electronic data sharing (interoperability) to improve vaccination coverage and documentation. CDC and the American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) have coordinated public health efforts with the ONC’s 2015 Edition certification program. This session will describe the process for defining EHR capabilities and guidance for a voluntary EHR immunization recognition program to complement the baseline immunization capabilities required by the ONC while addressing workflow and data quality. The discussion will address the impact to public health, clinicians and consumers, the testing process, methods to enhance visibility and sustainability of the recognition program. This session presents an effective and replicable collaborative model to coordinate efforts for public health, clinicians, and consumers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe how to evaluate and harmonize integration requirements for public health and clinical registry analysis with clinician and consumer needs for decision making and clinical care
  • Explain how to address clinical and analytical requirements with clinical care workflow to enhance clinical software usability and effectiveness
  • Describe how to approach workflow-based clinical software assessment and testing to achieve interoperability and how such a program might complement the ONC Certified EHR Technology requirements
  • Discuss two immunization-related data requirements requiring more collaboration among clinicians and public health immunization registry organizations
  • Describe potential incentives and challenges for clinical software vendors to participate in a voluntary immunization-related recognition program
