Our Evolving Journey with Clinical Decision Support

3:00pm - 4:00pm Tuesday, March 6
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Murano 3304

Description

What can we do as informaticists to help with the balance of providing specific information to the correct clinician at the appropriate part of the workflow versus the ongoing concern of alert fatigue with clinical decision support (CDS)? What tools are at our disposal to identify the correct CDS to build, the correct location in the clinician's workflow to build it, to streamline the development, and how to monitor it? This session will share the concept and categories contained within our CDS scoring taxonomy. We will also share our best practice approach of the use of cross functional diagrams and project management process with our multi-disciplinary team and highlight some of our lessons learned from our various projects. Finally, we will share lessons learned from our work with our enterprise data warehouse as we started to use this tool to build dashboards and reports for the clinical and technical monitoring of our CDS.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe a process to evaluate and prioritize potential clinical decision support (CDS) tools for development
  • Discuss the use of cross functional diagrams and project management to best design and develop CDS for minimal disruption to clinicians’ workflow
  • Assess various monitoring methods to analyze the outcome and usage of a CDS, including the use of a Clinical Data Warehouse
