Description

LTPAC is a unique setting within the healthcare spectrum. Patients are “Residents.” Encounters are measured in weeks to years, instead of minutes to days. Economics are vastly different, and providers remain highly fragmented where integrated delivery is still the exception. Yet, into this environment an “army” of health information technology (HIT) champions are arming themselves to confront the unique challenges of advancing HIT in LTPAC provider organizations. Be inspired with us during the Opening session as we discuss the possibilities of information and technology in addressing the needs of an aging population as well as the role CAHIMS can play in readying those interested in championing HIT in LTPAC environments.

Learning Objectives:

  • List potential ways HIT could be used to meet the needs of an aging population
  • Identify the unique challenges LTPAC providers face in leveraging HIT
  • Describe the sections of the CAHIMS exam to be covered in the remaining preconference sessions
