NI Fellowship: Developing Future Nurse Informaticists
12:00pm - 1:00pmTuesday, February 12
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
Nurse informaticists are a vital key to the successful use of technology to enable clinicians to provide safe, high quality care for patients, families and the community. Few opportunities exist for nurses to learn about and experience the nursing informatics (NI) role outside of formal education. This session presents an overview on developing and implementing an NI fellowship to provide staff nurses with an opportunity to discover the world of NI through classes, practical experience and mentoring by a nurse informaticist. Logistics for developing the NI fellowship will be presented to enable attendees to design and implement an effective NI fellowship. Challenges and barriers to developing an NI fellowship will be discussed along with strategies to overcome them. Outcomes achieved by our NI fellows and the program will be presented as well as recommendations to ensure a successful NI fellowship.
