Managing the Security of Connected Medical Devices

10:30am - 11:30am Tuesday, March 10
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W208C

Description

Technology-enabled devices within the U.S. healthcare industry continue to grow at the speed-of-light. The emergence of IoT, telemedicine, e-clinical trials, and a myriad of other digital medical technologies are directly impacting how care is both delivered and received on a global basis. But while every newly introduced innovation brings with it potentially life-saving care, the rise in connected medical devices and interoperable platforms has exponentially increased a healthcare organization’s surface area for attack and the overall opportunity for cyber threats. In this session, the presenters will share their firsthand experiences in developing strategies to identify and secure connected medical devices, as well as challenges and mistakes learned along the way.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain what makes medical devices different than typical IT assets/systems and the impact on security management
  • Discuss the framework of what a successful medical device security program would look like
  • Identify cost implications, potential returns on investment, and workflow improvements/opportunities when implementing an effective connected medical device security solution
