Journey from the Basement: Data Management Within Colocation

4:30pm - 5:30pm Wednesday, March 7
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Palazzo G

Description

A company’s growth is nearly always perceived as a positive event. However, managing the growth of an organization can be extremely complex for a healthcare facility or hospital IT department, especially if they’re transitioning from an internal IT strategy to colocation or a hybrid IT approach. The Moffitt Cancer Center faced just that, quickly realizing that their existing data center strategy -- an on premise server and storage infrastructure -- was no longer sustainable. In today’s evolving IT landscape, it is critical for IT departments to understand which factors to consider when evaluating a colocation or hybrid IT model , what challenges to plan for in the transition to colocation services, and the potential organizational benefits of this model. This “Journey from the Basement” can be transformational for a healthcare organization, but requires careful planning and execution to ensure reliable and high performance delivery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define colocation, discussing its potential, outline its capabilities and implementation processes within an organization and how to choose the right partner to help with the process
  • Evaluate the long-term, sustainable benefits of colocation as a standalone strategy, or as part of a hybrid IT approach, within a healthcare organization
  • Identify the warning signs of an unsustainable IT strategy
  • Recognize how an organization can successfully consolidate IT systems to a single location, while increasing footprint and simplifying processes and operations
  • Discuss potential factors that could create hurdles or signal that your organization may not be ready to move forward on complex IT infrastructure strategies like colocation or hybrid cloud
