Incoming! Medical Device Cybersecurity Alerts on the Rise

4:00pm - 5:00pm Thursday, February 14
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W320

Description

Medical device software recalls and security notices are a growing challenge for healthcare information and technology and clinical engineering departments. ECRI Institute has published an increasing number of reports related to software and cybersecurity over the past five years. Managing the response to these notices with limited hospital resources and with minimal impact to patient care is not an easy feat. Our member facilities report difficulty in identifying impacted assets and applying appropriate mitigations. Manufacturers report difficulty in closing out field notices when they can’t be sure that appropriate staff have received the message. During this session we will share data from ECRI’s recall management database to highlight trends in recall and security alerts and provide tips and practical recommendations to aid healthcare facilities in managing this growing concern.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify measurable changes in vendor reporting of software and cybersecurity recalls and field correction notices
  • Define key challenges faced by healthcare information and technology and clinical engineering departments in responding to cybersecurity recalls and notices
  • Formulate practical approaches to enable facilities to effectively address threats and vulnerabilities with medical devices
