Description

In this session the UAB Blaze team from the University of Alabama at Birmingham will present their case analysis and recommendations as it pertains to the HIMSS20 Student Case Competition supplied case study. This year’s competition utilized a 2015 HIMSS Davies Award winning case study focused on medication safety strategy from the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss challenges to health information technology use in the development of a transformational care model
  • List three example technological solutions that could be implemented in an example inpatient pharmacy department that would contribute to a transformation in patient care
  • Identify advantages of using a Lean Six Sigma approach to technological implementation and process change strategies
  • List examples of advocacy efforts at a local, state and national level that will support adoption of pharmacy practice standards crucial to transforming the patient and healthcare worker experience
