From Implementation to Optimization: Moving Beyond Operations

Description

As organizations move beyond large scale EHR implementations and the subsequent stabilization period, there is a need to evolve the thinking and processes around maintaining long term operational support. This session will describe the process that our organization went through to evaluate the current governance, process and structure for supporting Clinical Applications including using an outside consultant to assist in developing appropriate KPIs and SLAs. Everything from optimizing the work intake and prioritization process to enhancing clinical partnerships will be discussed.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Design an operational improvement initiative to evaluate current Application support operational processes and staffing to identify areas for improvement
  • Evaluate IT application team structures to accomplish the most amount of quality work with existing staff
  • Develop key metrics and SLAs and communicate those to various stakeholders
  • Describe the role of a Governance Committee in the intake and prioritization of key projects for EHR implementation and optimization
