WHERE THE WORLD
CONNECTS FOR HEALTH
Value based care performance is driven by the data recorded in claims files, yet often the impact of claims data quality on financial performance is overlooked. Shouldn’t claims data be easy? Despite standard accepted formats and a long history, claims and health plan data are deceptively problematic, with issues ranging from shifting file formats to changing meanings of concepts to missing or arbitrarily redacted elements to flat-out wrong information. Data scientist Michael Simon, PhD, has seen all of these issues (and more) and the potentially dangerous impact they can have on organizational ability to understand performance, meet contract requirements, and engage in effective outreach. During this executive briefing, Dr. Simon will update participants on major data quality issues currently plaguing plan data from sources ranging from commercial plans to Federal and state agencies. He will also discuss effective methods for identifying and addressing data quality issues, as well as walk participants through options for development of a thoughtful data quality strategy. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the pitfalls of claims data feeds in 2018, as well as a variety of tactical options for addressing issues proactively and more effectively meeting business objectives.
