Fraud and Abuse Compliance for the Health IT Industry

6:00pm - 7:00pm Tuesday, March 6
Las Vegas - Venetian Convention Center
Marcello 4405

Description

As participants in the broader healthcare ecosystem, members of the health IT industry are subject to certain Federal fraud and abuse laws. Compliance with these laws is critical because violations can have significant consequences, including financial penalties and jail time. During this session, representatives from two of the agencies tasked with enforcing these laws (the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General) will help attendees understand these laws and how they might apply in the health IT setting. Additionally, attendees will receive tips on how to develop or strengthen a culture of compliance within their organizations to avoid running afoul of these laws.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the Federal healthcare fraud and abuse laws that apply to those in the health IT industry
  • Analyze the consequences of violating those fraud and abuse laws
  • Examine recent cases involving application of relevant fraud and abuse laws
  • Identify ways to develop a culture of compliance in your health IT organization
