Essentials for Success With a Patient Command Center

10:00am - 11:00am Thursday, March 12
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W414C

Description

Command centers are no longer just for airports and the military. Healthcare systems across the country are implementing them at a rapid pace to drive efficiency, protect revenue, and enhance patient safety and satisfaction. Advocate Health Care, the largest health system in Illinois and one of the largest healthcare providers in the Midwest, launched its state-of-the-art Patient Command Center in March of 2019. Serving as Advocate’s air traffic control tower for hospital bed management, this state-of-the-art, centralized hub allows the health system to manage the safe and timely placement of patients across 3,500 beds, a total that will grow in the coming months. This session will talk about the Command Center journey from planning to implementation and will share best practices learned along the way.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the drivers behind an enterprise-wide patient command center implementation at a large, multi-site healthcare system working to differentiate patient experience and maintain strong regional presence
  • Formulate strategic and tactical checklists for an enterprise-wide patient command center that manages patient capacity, supports revenue recognition, enhances market share, and underpins a better patient experience
  • Illustrate specific requirements and examples for standardized command center workflows across the health system, including how to engage all disciplines who interact with patient flow, rationale for a staged rollout and niche technology requirements
  • Arrange a multidisciplinary team of stakeholders to guide project design, implementation, effectiveness, expansion, and quality assurance
