Cultivating Happiness in Medicine and Reducing Burnout

The healthcare environment is increasingly demanding and fast-paced, taking an emotional toll on clinicians, with some physicians expressing feelings of fatigue, frustration, and disempowerment, that can have a real impact on their personal wellness and the quality of care patients receive. Banner Health will share its journey to improve the health and wellbeing of providers, and reduce physician burnout through implementing a six-pillar model for cultivating happiness in medicine. In this session, they will describe the organizational readiness required and the programs put in place to grow physician leaders, build camaraderie, and eliminate obstacles, with a focus on delivering better technology and tools. Since implementing these programs, Banner Health has seen significant positive outcomes, including greater participation in social community events, significant enhancements to the EHR improving speed and efficiency, reduced physician turnover, and improved provider satisfaction scores.
