Description

Contrasting views on the solutions to interoperability are that progress will be made through dramatic innovation which propels a new framework taking hold through a great leap of technological innovation and product substitution. A second view holds that progress will be incremental building from the technologies and infrastructure in place today. This session provides a realistic evaluation of these different views including the roles of the consumer, public policies, and technologies. Future developments, directions and constraints to interoperability will be analyzed and paths forward defined.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain differing perspectives for the paths forward and their respective milestones in reaching sustained interoperability in healthcare
  • Appraise the barriers to success of each perspective
  • Evaluate the probable way forward and the implications across stakeholder groups
