Closing Keynote: Being a Physician Leader in a Challenging Environment

3:45pm - 4:30pm Monday, February 11
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W304E

Description

Managing through Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA)  is a unique skill set that will challenge even the most skilled and experienced leader. There are few things that are more VUCA than doing a merger of large equals (12 hospitals and 15 hospitals),  moving to a single patient record across the system and the rapid acceleration of value-based care. Dr. Byrne is experiencing first-hand the collision of these events. She will share stories of challenges, successes and failures and how physician leadership can play a key role in VUCA situations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop key strategies that will make an impact in a VUCA environment and identify specifically what actions are best used under what circumstances
  • Identify the impact of culture and how that should modify your approach or generate warning signs
  • Demonstrate how to tackle the "single source of truth" data question and how to create a path to this goal while still providing the key information needed to continue to care for patients and run the business
  • Examine compelling patient and physician stories to gain consensus or cause disruption as needed
