Better Patient Experiences via Indoor Location Services

2:30pm - 3:30pm Wednesday, March 11
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W414A

Description

The Orlando VA Medical Center has implemented one of the most advanced and individualized applications of wayfinding in the country, an application of Indoor Location Services that is on a par with GPS. It leverages virtual Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Machine Learning to provide turn-by-turn directions from veterans' homes onto the massive campus and into the garage closest to their check-in desk, then step by step directions to through the enormous 1.2M square foot main hospital, to the particular office for their appointment. This session describes Orlando VA’s journey to deliver the service, the challenges that had to be overcome, and the myriad ways that IT is innovatively individualizing it, alleviating veterans’ stress and ensuring they have a positive experience.
