Augment Healthcare Decisions with Pharmacogenomics

1:30pm - 2:30pm Tuesday, February 12
Orlando - Orange County Convention Center
W207C

Description

Medication adverse effects plague virtually every healthcare organization and provider in the country--impacting patients’ wellbeing, impeding therapeutic benefit and delaying favorable outcomes. Inefficient care likewise elevates cost. Pharmacogenomics can help your organization tackle the challenge of medication-adverse effects. This session will explore how Avera, an integrated health system in the Midwest, implemented a PGx program and is using pharmacist-driven interpretation to provide better care for patients being treated for a wide range of conditions including pain, cardiovascular disease and behavioral health issues. The speaker will discuss how it delivers critical PGx information to the clinical point of care in a highly visual and intuitive manner. She will present how Avera implemented the program, and discuss both quantitative and qualitative outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe pharmacogenomics and the key areas for current application of personalized medication management
  • Identify the opportunities to improve healthcare quality and delivery through pharmacogenomics implementation
