ECRI Institute embarked on a journey in 2016 to evaluate medical device cybersecurity through a case study on infusion pump security capabilities. As a result of our study, we produced our first ever comparative evaluation of security capabilities of infusion pumps. But, we’ve learned about much more than just pumps – with the volume and ambiguity of medical device security information coming from academia and independent researchers, as well as the constant attention by the popular press, it’s hard for our member hospitals to know what to worry about first and what actions can really improve security. We have identified 10 key problem areas that affect how our member hospitals procure and secure their networked medical devices. Learn how IT and clinical engineering can work together to spot these issues and tackle them in a practical manner.
