The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) continues its journey to implement a modern electronic health record (EHR) solution that will be fully interoperable with the Department of Defense’s (DOD) EHR solution. Senior leaders from VA’s Office of Electronic Health Record Modernization will present the latest information regarding the program as it begins deployment in March 2020 in Washington state and continues across the country. This discussion will highlight the background and impact of EHR modernization, the creation of national clinical standards by engaging front-line staff, ongoing change management leadership and training efforts, achievements in data migration and progress establishing the necessary IT infrastructure and interfaces to ensure a successful implementation.
