The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) are taking on a historic effort to modernize their electronic health record (EHR) systems and create a common record for service members, veterans and qualified beneficiaries. The new EHR solution will improve the experience of service members as they transition from active duty to veteran status, provide clinicians with a full picture of patient medical history, and drive better clinical outcomes. Service members and veterans will no longer have to physically carry their medical records from place to place, submit to duplicate tests, or relay basic information like drug allergies to different providers. During this session, senior leaders from VA’s Office of the Electronic Health Record Modernization and DoD’s Program Executive Office, Defense Healthcare Management Systems will provide the latest updates on the implementation of their common EHR solution.
